Since founding HighPoint Homes in 1999, Jay has built a reputation for craftsmanship, integrity, and exceptional client experiences. His collaborative approach, creative vision, and attention to detail have made HighPoint Homes a premier name in custom home building throughout the lakes area.
As general contractor, Jay oversees every phase of the building process to ensure each home reflects the highest standards of quality and precision. His background growing up on a farm near Battle Lake, Minnesota, instilled a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for family—values that continue to guide his work today.
With over 35 years of experience, Jay remains passionate about creating homes that stand the test of time. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time outdoors, running, hunting and sharing all the lakes area has to offer with his wife and two sons.

For almost 20 years, Ashley has been helping homeowners in the Alexandria area create timeless, livable spaces that reflect their lifestyle and vision. With a trained eye for design and a deep understanding of how families live in their homes, she brings both creativity and practicality to every project.
Ashley believes that great design starts with listening. She takes the time to understand how clients use their spaces and how they want their home to feel. From concept to completion, she collaborates closely with homeowners, vendors, and subcontractors to ensure every detail aligns with the client’s vision and the process is seamless from start to finish.
A longtime Alexandria resident, Ashley loves the lakes area and spending time on the water with her family. She also enjoys traveling, gardening, or working on DIY projects. Ashley holds an A.A.S. degree in Interior Design from Alexandria Technical and Community College and is a Certified Kitchen and Bath Designer (CKBD) with the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA).

With more than 20 years of experience, Kim specializes in designing custom homes and timber frame residences that blend timeless craftsmanship with modern living. In 2014, she partnered with Jay Paulson of HighPoint Homes and Ben Miller of Blue Ox Timber Frames to create a collaborative design-build team dedicated to exceptional custom home experiences.
Kim’s process begins with understanding each client’s lifestyle — how they live today and how they’ll use their home for years to come. This insight guides her in crafting spaces that are beautifully balanced, functional, and perfectly suited to each family’s needs, wants, and budget. From the first sketch to the final details, Kim ensures the design journey is creative, personalized, and enjoyable.
She holds an A.A.S. degree in Architectural Construction Technology from St. Cloud Technical College. When she’s not designing, Kim enjoys spending time with her family and being outdoors — gardening, biking, and bird watching. In the winter, she’s an avid snowmobiler who loves chasing deep snow wherever it falls.
